“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Disneyland proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination. In thousands of sparkling lights, and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds: the Main Street Electrical Parade!”
With those magical words, the Main Street Electrical Parade returned to the place it all began after a 20 plus year hiatus. The Main Street Electrical Parade debuted in Disneyland on June 17, 1972 and had a 24 year run with a couple of interruptions. In 1975 and ’76 America on Parade celebration commemorated America’s bicentennial. In 1983 and ’84 it was briefly replaced by Flights of Fantasy Parade. In 1996 Disneyland officials announced that the parade would end its run in October of 1996 but fan response was so great, the parade’s final run was put off until November 25th. The Main Street Electrical Parade was performed more than 3,600 times for more than 75 million guests during its original run. It was replaced with Light Magic which lasted only 4 months.
Above is the commercial for the return of Main Street Electrical Parade, featuring quite a few old relics of Disneyland. Below is video of the Main Street Electrical Parade from the after hours event last night posted by Attraction Faction on YouTube.
The parade returned to the streets of Main Street U.S.A. with an after hours premiere event last night. The parade will make its regular park debut tonight and run nightly (weather permitting) until June 18th. An illuminated Casey Jr. leads the parade pulling a bass drum with Mickey and Minnie on board. You’ll see characters from some of your favorite tales such as Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Pete’s Dragon and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The parade culminates with a salute to America with dancers in patriotic clothing and a majestic bald eagle. I for one can’t wait to see it again as it was one of my favorite things to see at Disneyland and in my opinion one of the most beloved events at Disneyland with one of the most recognizable songs, Baroque Hoedown. What will happen with the parade after June 18th is the topic of much debate. So if you can make sure to find your to way to Disneyland on Main Street U.S.A. to check it out.
